6 More Weeks of Winter

THIS WEEK

According to the ground hog, we will have 6 more weeks of winter. I think we better hope for 10 more weeks of winter or our valley is really going to suffer this summer.

We had our student of the month assembly and academic olympic assembly yesterday.  It was a lot of fun.  I cannot believe how smart your children are.  I'd like to play a little version of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"  Here are some of the questions your kiddos answered yesterday:
  • Kinder, "What is the answer to an addition problem called?"
  • First Grade, "What does schema mean?"
  • Second Grade, "What are two of the three things an adverb describes?"
  • Third Grade,  "Explain the difference between abstract and concrete nouns. Provide an example of both."
  • Fourth Grade, "A 90 degree angle is cut into two smaller angles.  One of the small angles measures 35 degrees.  What is the measurement of the other small angle?"
  • Fifth Grade, "In business terms, what is a consumer?"
  • Sixth Grade, "What is the cerebrum in charge of in the nervous system?"
  • Seventh Grade, "Name the major organs of the urinary system?"
  • Eighth Grade, "How do you find the volume of a prism and a pyramid?"
These are the little smarties who answered those tough questions.  Way to go!

I told Toby Anderson, it was a good thing he had his A-game on to represent the boys in the school!  Congratulations to our students of the month.  We are proud of these kids!

Other fun things happening this week at Oasis are:
  • This Friday night is our middle school dance.  We can hardly wait!
  • This Thursday our eighth graders take the placement test for high school math. They have worked hard, and I think it is going to pay off.
  • We have a student teacher at the school in 4th grade, Heather Edwards.  Please welcome her if you see her.  She will be with us until the end of the school year.
  • Our honor choir kids will practice and perform Friday night here in Fallon.
  • Our fifth graders, and some 4th graders, will be presenting their business plans to an awesome panel of local business owners: Mayor Kenny Tedford, Tedford Tires, Roger Diedrichson, Pizza Barn, DeeDee Ferguson, Cobblestone Corner, and Andrea Shell, Kaia Fitness.
Lastly, I wanted to share a cute story with you.  Our kinders presented their weather shelter projects to the 6th grade yesterday.  Mrs. Mori told her students to be very nice and complimentary because these kids were just in in kinder and they were doing a presentation.  One of her sixth graders said, "Jeez, I'm glad I didn't go to kindergarten here.  I couldn't even read in kindergarten let alone do a presentation."
