Friday night most of the staff and board of directors attended the Churchill County Chamber of Commerce awards banquent. Oasis Academy was nominated in several categories. We were thrilled to take home the "Community Choice Award." We want to thank you, the families, who gave us your vote in the survey. Many wonderful things were said about the school and Katie Dahl, board president, thanked the staff and our amazing families for creating the school we have today!
Mr. O'Neill was also nominated for civic leader of the year, which I thought was more than well deserved.
I also got a little "surprise" when I won "Person of the Year." I would like to share with you what hope I shared that night (I wasn't really thinking too clearly). . .
It felt almost dishonest to accept that award because there have been and continue to be so many people who have worked just as hard as I have, and continue to do so. This school would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our board of directors (Jane Anderson, Dusty Casey, Samantha Gomes, Linnell Erquiaga, Craig Mingay, Michael O'Neill, Katie Dahl, and Lisa Bird). I have to give credit where credit is due, the idea for the a charter school was Katie's and she has been by my side working every bit as hard as I have from the very beginning. All "my" best ideas and strategies come from her, so I share this award equally with her. I also have to thank my husband Gib. You don't do something like this if you husband doesn't support you and he has stepped up around every corner and been an amazing support to me and an amazing father to our children. I also have to thank our parents, Mike and Michon, and my mom and dad who gave us so much support.
It was an exciting night for everyone! Thank you for your support.
