We are thrilled to be handing out Google Chromebooks to our 5-8 grade students this week. The students will use their Chromebooks for everything from reading e-books to doing research and documenting data for a project. You can learn ALL about Google Chromebooks for education by visiting http://edutraining.googleapps.com/
The great news is that because we are working in “the cloud” your child does not need to bring the Chromebook home. They have been assigned an email account through our secure domain. This means that they can log onto any computer with internet access and they will have access to their documents, bookmarked research, e-books, etc.
If you do not have a computer at home, or you want your child to bring their Chromebook home two things must happen:
1. You must provide a case for the Chromebook. They are widely available on line for as little as $10. If you go to Amazon.com do a search for the “SAMSUNG Chromebook case” and you will get a variety of options.
2. We will require $100 deposit. This will be returned at the end of the year when the students turn in the Chromebook.
We are giving our students a GREAT opportunity; with all great opportunity comes GREAT responsibility. We trust them to use them appropriately and in accordance with the “Internet Use Agreement” that they signed. In the event that they do not use the Chromebooks in accordance with those guidelines they will lose all Chromebook privileges!
Finally, we want you to be aware that Oasis Academy is in complete compliance with the Child Internet Protection Act. Please us stay in compliance by being aware of WHEN your children are on line and WHAT they are viewing. Outside of our network (the school) we cannot control what they access on the internet, only what they have access to in the apps environment. Please visit: www.netsmartz.org and/or www.ou.edu/oupd/kidtool.htm for great strategies on keeping your children safe on the internet.
